Testing
Testing - Nutrigenomics & Functional
A variety of tests help us understand functional imbalances and the root cause of suboptimal health.
Nutrigenomics Testing - What is it?
Unlock the Power of Personalised Nutrition!
Nutrigenomics is about how subtle variations of certain food-related genes can alter the way some nutrients are taken up, moved around and metabolised by the body.
We can’t do much about our genetic code (hair colour, eyes, etc.), but we sure can do a lot to support the genes we have that respond to nutrition and lifestyle interventions. To be clear, this is not about finding out if we are predisposed to any particular disease but more about understanding how diet and lifestyle interact with our genes. Nutrigenomics helps you to understand this unique connection and provides a window into your health that may support you in making positive changes that align with your genetics!
Here’s what you can discover in the Nutrigenomic reports from Lifecode Gx :
- Nutrients: Learn how your body senses, transports and metabolises vitamins (A, B12, C, D, K), caffeine, gluten, and alcohol.
- Detoxification: How do you detoxify medications?
- Methylation: Mood and Sleep. Explore your genetic predisposition for making serotonin, dopamine, and melatonin.
- Metabolism: Uncover clues about how your body handles sugar and fat, appetite, inflammation, and blood pressure.

By understanding your unique nutrigenomic map, you may be able to leverage the power of personalised nutrition to optimise your health and well-being, focusing your efforts on areas where you need most support, given your unique diet and lifestyle factors. Unique colour-coded pathway diagrams provide easy to “digest” visual summaries, alongside in-depth insights into the risks or protective potential of each genotype. This may enable a deep, holistic understanding and identification of the lifestyle changes that may be most effective. As a Nutritional Therapist, I aim to contextualise these findings given your symptoms, diet, lifestyle, gender and life stage.
Combine Nutritional Therapy sessions with these reports to get the most out of your sessions and make sustainable and lasting change.
Test Kit: It only requires a one-off mouth swab test. Your unique Nutrigenomic blueprint can be referred to again and again throughout the rest of your life.
Cost of Nutrigenomic reports: One test kit £99. Shipping costs are extra. Please ask for details and costs per report.
Functional Testing
Functional testing is designed to inform about underlying functional imbalances. It is not about making a diagnosis.
Functional testing, although a snapshot in time, may involve testing saliva, serum, blood or urine for biomarkers such as hormones, blood glucose, cholesterol, urinary metabolites, and vitamin status. In combination with Nutrigenomics testing, your symptoms, diet and lifestyle factors, these tests may help to reveal underlying functional imbalances and provide direction to making personalised recommendations to support your health. Functional tests often include a wider array of biomarkers than your GP may offer.
A variety of tests, such as the Organic Acid Test (OAT) or NutrEval tests, or Gut testing, are available and can be discussed during the consultation, where relevant. Example testing companies are:
